7 Easy Tips to Remove Bathroom Mold Mushrooms

Molds and mushrooms are the common problems with an infrequently cleaned bathroom. These organisms usually thrive in a very damp sand moist environment that is always present in a bathroom environment. When left long enough without removing them and cleaning the surfaces where they grow, it can leave stains on your bathroom floors and walls. But there are many ways to remove bathroom molds and mushrooms and these tips can give you a good start how.

Tip 1. Keep the bathroom surfaces clean. This means using detergents to scrub off the walls and floors of the bathroom area and wash them thoroughly after soaping. Scrub off the bathroom molds and mold mushrooms unless the surface is completely clean. There are many bathroom cleaners that you can use for this purpose that you can buy from any department stores. Make sure to wipe the surface dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Tip 2. Remove the mold mushrooms using a paper towel. Do this each time a mushroom or mold formation is in sight. Since you already have a paper towel ready in the bathroom, it is a very convenient way of removing bathroom molds and mushrooms. The earlier you remove these organisms, the better.

Tip 3. To remove stains, add 1 cup of TSP or trisodium phosphate with 2 gallons of warm water. Dissolve the powder until completely dissolved and use the mixture for cleaning by leaving it on the surfaces for 15 minutes before scrubbing. Then wash with water.

Tip 4. Always keep the surfaces dry. Bathroom mold and mushroom always thrive in a damp place. By keeping the bathroom walls and floors clean and dry all the time will discourage their growth on these areas.

Tip 5. Use a disinfectant spray on the spot where the molds and mushrooms usually grow in the bathroom. Disinfectant sprays usually have the ingredient benzalkonium chloride which is effective in killing molds and helps in preventing their growth. Make sure to use protective gears like mask and gloves to protect yourself.

Tip 6. You can make your own solution to kill molds using bleach. In a plastic bucket, pour the bleach and add nine cups of water then add a tablespoon of dish soap before mixing. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and you have your own disinfectant spray solution.

Tip 7. The problem with mold and mushroom formation in the bathroom does not only involve the floor and wall surfaces. Leakage in the ceiling can also cause mold and mushrooms to grow inside the bathroom. It is best to clean the bathroom ceiling as well to prevent mold and mushroom formation. You can use the same disinfectant spray or bleach solution to spray on the ceiling and let it stay there for 15 minutes before wiping them.

These tips are easy ways to help you learn how to remove molds and mushrooms for that clean bathroom to use everyday.

  1. Thank you for the great tips! I am horrified of finding mold growing in my own bathroom! My sister discovered mold growing behind her bathtub a few months ago and ever since then, I have been extra careful in keeping my bathroom clean and disinfected. You mentioned making sure that you keep your bathroom is dry. That seems like a hard task, considering the bathroom is consistently humid due to the shower. What would you recommend to keep it dry? http://www.sparkleanrestoration.ca/mould.html

  2. Hi Buddy,

Thanx for sharing such an awesome post. I really loved it, it's so scary – every time you turn around it's something new – toxins, poisons, dangerous toys, recalls, deadly cribs… it can be very overwhelming.

I found black mold in my bathroom today and I’ve been doing a ton of research. I didn’t know if it was safe to remove myself or if I should hire mold assessment professionals. Thanks for mentioning that if it’s less than 10 square feet I can probably remove the mold myself! It looks like I caught the mold early enough for the remediation process to be quick and straightforward.
